If you wish to run certain programs on the fly, you can just pin their shortcuts on the Windows task bar. Unfortunately, the same can not be said about files or folders, but you can get around this limitation with Taskbar Pinner. This simple application gives you the possibility of pinning anything to the task bar. Folders and documents, which you may open frequently, the operating system's control panel and the Windows Libraries are just a few examples.

The application is free and you can have it up and running in no time. Instead of going through an installation process, you only need to extract an executbale from an archive. You can find separate executables, for 32-bit operating systems and for 64-bit versions. Taskbar Pinner was designed exclusively for Windows 7, but you can find another application, from the same developer, with a similar functionality.

Taskbar Pinner provides a compact user interface, with options for pinning files, folders, shell locations and library folders to the task bar. All you have to do is click one of these options and select the items you wish to pin. Files and folders can be selected on a standard Open dialog, while shell locations and library folders can be selected by clicking their corresponding check boxes, on different windows.

The application allows you to pin any shell location to the task bar, including the Control Panel, the Action Center and much more. Pinned items will appear on the task bar instantly and they will work like any other shortcut. What's more, Taskbar Pinner can be integrated with the Windows Explorer context menu. As a result, you can pin any file or folder, directly from a standard explorer window, by right clicking the items and selecting the appropriate option.

Pros

You can pin files, folders and other itmes on the task bar. The application has a simple design and its functionality is straightforward. It doesn't use too many resoruces and you don't have to install it.

Cons

The application works only on Windows 7. Fortunately, you can find another different version, for Windows 8. Taskbar Pinner enables you to pin anything you want on the Windows task bar, with only a few clicks.
